Whether you're just passing through Salvador, Brazil or setting up a base for a while, you’ll likely be looking for a spot to sip a good coffee, get some work done, or simply people-watch. I spent a total of six months in Salvador, Brazil and have visited plenty of cafes in that time. Below you find my favourite six cafes or restaurants in Salvador to enjoy a good coffee, cake, and to comfortably spend hours working as a digital nomad. Note that I have definitely not visited all cafes in Salvador, so if you think I forgot as essential one, please let me know and I will make sure I visit it next time!

1. Ahorita Padaria Artesanal in Rio Vermelho, Salvador
🗺️ Location: Rua Tupinambás 423, Rio Vermelho, Salvador, BA, Brazil
⏰ Hours: Wednesday to Friday from 3pm to 8pm, and Saturdays from 9am to 12:30pm (check their Instagram as their opening times change occasionally)
💻 Digital Nomad Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
🔌 Wi-Fi: Good
🔋 Outlets: Few
🪑 Vibe: Friendly and trendy
🌱 Bonus: Since this is a bakery, this is the place to go for pastries and fresh sourdough bread in Salvador!
Why I loved it: Ahorita Padaria Artesanal in Rio Vermelho is the only bakery where I have found sourdough bread in Salvador - and it is delicious! The owners and employees are super friendly. There is an exhibition space upstairs which provides a nice break for when you are working. The pastries here are amazing, but don't expect great coffee (it is mostly an add-on for the pastries and is served in paper cups). This is mostly a bakery and they open until or after lunch time, so they do not have a lunch menu. And check their opening days, they are closed from Sundays to Wednesday.
2. Puro Saudável Restaurante in Graça, Salvador
🗺️ Location: Rua da Graça 22, Graça, Salvador, BA, Brazil
⏰ Hours: 8am - 9pm, open every day
💻 Digital Nomad Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🔌 Wi-Fi: Fast
🔋 Outlets: Plenty, if you sit at a wall table
🪑 Vibe: Bustling and trendy
🌱 Bonus: Great vegan options and all organic!
Why I loved it: Puro Saudável Restaurant in Graça is one of my favourite cafes in Salvador, Brazil. It has a great menu with vegan and vegetarian options. All their food (to my knowledge) is organic and below the restaurant they also have an organic store. Their pastries are super tasty as well, so this is an excellent place to work all day from lunch to afternoon coffee with cake. During lunch it gets quite busy so make sure you arrive beforehand to secure a nice place to work, with the outlets being all located in the wall.

3. Preta Cat Cafe in Rio Vermelho, Salvador
🗺️ Location: Rua da Paciência 239, Rio Vermelho, Salvador, BA, Brazil
⏰ Hours: 9am - 12pm and 1pm - 6pm, closed on Mondays
💻 Digital Nomad Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🔌 Wi-Fi: Fast
🔋 Outlets: Plenty
🪑 Vibe: Usually quiet or only a few people
🌱 Bonus: You can cuddle with cats!
Why I loved it: Preta Cat Café in Rio Vermelho is spacious and has a cozy yet organized vibe, which I like as a digital nomad. They have good coffee with vegan and non-dairy milk options, a delicious chocolate cake and great bread with mozzarella and pesto!
4. Casa Castanho in Rio Vermelho
🗺️ Location: Rua Alexandre de Gusmão 57, Rio Vermelho, Salvador, BA, Brazil
⏰ Hours: daily from 8am - 8pm, except on Sundays then they open from 8am to 3pm
💻 Digital Nomad Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🔌 Wi-Fi: Good
🔋 Outlets: Some
🪑 Vibe: Bustling and trendy, especially during brunch and lunch
🌱 Bonus: In a surprisingly peaceful area in Salvador!
Why I loved it: This place is hidden away in the otherwise bustling Rio Vermelho. The street has some older houses in bright colours and it almost has a small-town feeling or Italian historical city center feel to it. Their food is great and they are popular (especially for brunch) for good reason, but they are also a bit expensive in comparison to other places.
5. Café Gateiro / Cat Café in Barra, Salvador
🗺️ Location: Avenida Almirante Marques de Leão 156, Barra, Salvador, BA, Brazil
⏰ Hours: 9am - 1pm, 2pm to 7:30pm, open everyday
💻 Digital Nomad Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
🔌 Wi-Fi: Fast
🔋 Outlets: Plenty
🪑 Vibe: Cozy and bustling
🌱 Bonus: Cuddle time with cats is included when you order and monitored so that it is not too intense for the cats.
Why I loved it: This is my favourite digital nomad-proof café in Barra, which is one of the more touristy areas of Salvador. They have an inside and outside area, althoug all the plugs are obviously inside. The only downside to this place is that it is quite small with many people coming in and out, so not a great place for meetings and I am always hesitant to sit here for long periods at a time without ordering regularly.
6. Bookstore Leitura, Shopping da Barra in Caminho das Árvores, Salvador
🗺️ Location: Avenida Tancredo Neves 148, LJ 5S 4 Piso (4th Floor), Caminho das Árvores, Salvador, BA, Brazil
⏰ Hours: daily from 9am - 10pm, except Sundays when they are open from 1pm to 9pm
💻 Digital Nomad Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🔌 Wi-Fi: Good
🔋 Outlets: Few
🪑 Vibe: Bustling
🌱 Bonus: It is a bookstore so excellent vibes!
Why I loved it: Bookstore Leitura is hidden away in Shopping da Barra, a large mall in Salvador. The bookstore is on the 4th floor and within the bookstore there are stairs leading to the café. There is also an event location right next door, so it can get busy depending on the day. The tables are small and plugs limited, but this is also a place where you can easily spend several hours without someone constantly asking if you want to order something else.
